Why Braces? Our Philosophy
Orthodontic therapy has been an important part of our practice for our patients for over 25 years. Dr. Foust has been fortunate to be associated with and mentored by Dr. Carl Gugino since 1989. Dr. Gugino is one of the world’s foremost innovators in orthodontic treatment who has spent the last 40 years developing and teaching his unique application around the world to dental professionals. Dr. Foust adopted his “Zerobase Orthodontic Philosophy” of diagnosis and treatment planning and continues to use this approach in all areas of treatment in our practice including orthodontic therapies. This is the most sophisticated diagnostic and treatment system in the world of facial aesthetics and treatment of dysfunction. It combines cutting edge technology and art to create a patient-specific individualized treatment plan based on the degree of difficulty. Personally treating and following our patients throughout their orthodontic treatment gives us a unique perspective to their individual needs while we are designing their treatment plan including any future needs. We are easily able to coordinate the orthodontic phase with any additional treatment phases that may be needed such as implants and restorative dentistry.
Early Orthodontic Treatment – Children
Treatment for the developing child is one of the most exciting therapies offered at Foust Dental Medicine. The philosophy to correct developmental problems as the child grows gives a better more stable orthodontic result. Waiting until development is farther along can make treatment more complicated and more difficult to correct. We believe that all malocclusions, or bad bites, are the result of some form of dysfunction in the child. This dysfunction can be attributed to issues with breathing, swallowing and/or habits. Diagnosis in these areas is done in our office to determine their effects on the patient so we can address ways to correct the problem. This allows for better treatment outcomes and stability of the treatment. The goal for early treatment is to avoid a second phase of treatment once all the permanent teeth erupt. If a second phase of treatment is needed it usually is less complicated due to intervention from the early treatment.
Adolescent and Adult Orthodontics
The same dysfunctions found in the developing child can also be a part of orthodontic problems found in the full dentition of more mature patients. The diagnostic protocols and individualized treatment planning we use for early orthodontic therapies is also used for the older patient. Typically, the older the patient, the more challenging the treatment can be. However, great results can still be accomplished.
Records Appointment
What are diagnostic orthodontic records and why are they necessary?
It is our philosophy that most orthodontic problems are the result of dysfunction of the structures surrounding the teeth. This dysfunction causes the teeth to be misaligned or the growth and development of the jaws to be abnormal. By using the latest technology in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients the diagnostic records allow us to determine the factors causing or influencing the orthodontic problems. The records also help us to determine how and where we can move teeth into the best position within the facial structures. This leads to development of an individualized treatment plan for the patient. Once the records are taken a treatment plan is developed. The treatment recommendations will then be presented at a consultation appointment with Dr. Foust. At this consultation we will discuss our treatment recommendations, the fees, your insurance, if applicable, and financial arrangements. We will also answer any questions you have and address any concerns.
An appointment of 1 ½ hr. is needed to complete diagnostic records that include:
